Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project – Public Forum on Age-friendly Community Support and Health Services
The Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project’s second public forum underscoring the theme of “Age-friendly Community Support and Health Services” was held on 10 November 2017 at Yasumoto International Academic Park of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Through presentations and discussion of speakers, the forum provided a platform for stakeholders from various sectors and members of the public to explore age-friendly community support and health services in Hong Kong.
The forum attracted over 500 participants from government, academia, professional bodies, elderly groups, social and medical sectors. To kick start the forum, Mr Leong Cheung, Executive Director, Charities and Community of The Hong Kong Jockey Club delivered an opening remark. Following this was the presentation of Professor Jean Woo, Director of CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing, on the baseline assessment findings on community support and health services. Dr Lam Ching-choi, Chairman of the Elderly Commission, and Professor Yeoh Eng-kiong, Director of The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of CUHK, delivered keynote presentations on age-friendly elderly services and health services respectively. The panel discussion chaired by Professor Jean Woo rendered a platform for speakers and participants to explore social-medical integration model in provision of primary care services. Other panelists included Ms Pang Kit-ling, Assistant Director (Elderly) of Social Welfare Department; Dr Teresa Li, Assistant Director (Family and Elderly Health Services) of Department of Health; Dr Au Yeung Tung-wai, Service Director (Primary & Community Health Care) of New Territories West Cluster of Hospital Authority; Dr Donald Li, President-elect of World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) / Chairman of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council / Censor of Hong Kong College of Family Physicians, as well as elderly representative Mr Sy Ching-tam (Project Ambassador), and caregiver representative Mr Leung Lai-chor (Project Ambassador).
Alongside with the forum, exhibition and activity booths were set up at the venue to introduce the Project, the age-friendly city concepts and the overseas examples of taking forward age-friendly initiatives on community support and health services and to provide information about self-management of health by older people.
